About Rich Oxley’s contemporary art

Introduction

Rich Oxley’s art is contemporary in the style and tools that he uses to interpret what he sees. He refers to his work as ‘Graphic Illustrations’.

Inspiration

Like all artists, Rich becomes inspired by what he feels & senses in his chosen environment and subject. The foundation of his intended art is captured using nothing more than a digital camera (not unusual these days, even for traditional artists). This is where Rich departs from both the traditional artist and the traditional photographer. The electronic image is massaged in numerous ways, starting with removal of unnecessary details (yet retaining key aspects of the subject) to rendering the underlying hues that exist in the image. Nothing is added. The image has now moved away from the photographic world to rub (or should I say “brush”) shoulders with traditional art.

Remaster

Paradoxically, Rich refers to this as “Remastering”. But clearly, it is not enhancing an image back to the original photograph. It is remastering the image to project his original interpretation of his chosen subject.

History

The final art work becomes a meticulous interpretation of an event that occurred, or a place that was present, on a day and at the time of conception.

The Finish, but not the End

Finally, the art is rendered onto archival quality professional paper. This further lends itself to a richness that radiates through the metallic properties of the medium. The work survives the fortunate art collector to be enjoyed by generations to come.
